Course Description
The presence of a neurological injury or illness can affect function throughout the body, including pelvic health. Additionally, while the majority of therapists with pelvic floor training have a strong background in orthopedics, there is less understanding of how the pelvic floor muscles are affected by neurological conditions. This course aims to bridge the gap between the outpatient pelvic health therapist and their patients with neurological injuries or illnesses. Topics include differential diagnosis of musculoskeletal and neurogenic symptoms, whole-body implications of neurologic compromise on the pelvic floor muscles, treatment considerations, and much more.
Course Objective
1. Participants will be able to verbalize key differences in the evaluation & treatment of pelvic health concerns for individuals with different neurological disorders.
2. Participants will be aware of adaptations & strategies to assist individuals with bowel, bladder, or sexual concerns.
3. Participants will recognize common memory & cognitive impairments to consider when working with individuals with certain neurological diagnoses or injuries.
