Dr. Lisa Shaw

Lisa Shaw, PT, DPT, C/NDT, PHC, CMTPT

Doctor of Physical Therapy

Dr. Lisa Shaw is the founder of Integral Physical Therapy, a comprehensive physical therapy clinic serving East Cobb, Marietta, and surrounding areas.  She graduated in 1998 with honors from The University of Tennessee as a Physical Therapist.  She began her career specializing in pediatrics. Through her own personal postpartum journey, Lisa became an advocate for women’s health, ultimately becoming one of a few therapists in the metro Atlanta area to become certified in pelvic health.

The last 10 years have brought a wider variety of patients to her door.  Lisa has enjoyed expanding her treatment focus to include a fairly diverse patient population. She has extensive continuing education experience including pelvic health, pregnancy and postpartum care, dry needling, myofascial release, orthopedics, breathing dysfunction, pain management, women’s services, and a vast array of pediatric issues and treatments.  She has a unique background given these areas of study, and is known to work effectively with multiple generations of the same family. Lisa takes a special interest in each patient and believes in a holistic approach to patient care.  Advocating for health and wellness, including injury prevention and optimizing performance, is a key part of her physical therapy treatment approach.

Dr. Lisa Shaw has been blessed to work with and learn from some of the leading experts in the field of physical therapy, including pelvic health, manual therapy, dance medicine, youth sports, developmental and adult orthopedics, and craniofacial issues including headache.

One of her mentors, Mary Massery, is the leading expert in respiratory issues and has led Lisa to become an expert in breathing dysfunction, including pectus excavatum and diaphragm rehab.  This treatment is foundational for all patients as well, since breathing mechanics relate to everything from pelvic floor function to core strength and neck pain.  Her certification in Dry Needling through Myopain Seminars has provided her with interventions to speed the recovery in many patients she works with, including youth and adult orthopedic injuries, and many types of chronic and acute pain.  The study of Pilates has significantly influenced her approach to exercise.  She began studying Pilates in 2012 and enjoys incorporating this invaluable method into the treatment plans for her patients.

Combining postpartum care with her pediatric expertise, Dr. Lisa enjoys helping new moms adapt to mothering through instruction on care techniques, positioning, carriers, and motor activities to promote normal infant development.  She loves that she can work with both moms and babies simultaneously and has created a unique niche in this area.

Dr. Lisa Shaw with her family

Teaching is a passion for Lisa.  Helping patients understand how their bodies work and become empowered in their own health and wellness is incredibly rewarding.  Coming alongside other therapists expanding their careers in pediatrics, respiratory function, or pelvic health has been a highlight of being a seasoned therapist.  Taking current research and treatment techniques to groups of therapists in clinic settings has given Lisa the opportunity to share what she has learned and experienced in order to help even more patients.  Being a lab assistant for Dr. Massery’s courses is one of her favorite teaching opportunities.  And, with a shift in understanding how effective PT can be in online formats, she is taking her knowledge online to reach more patients and to help other therapists in her areas of specialization.

Lisa continues her lifelong love of learning with several courses each year, constantly adding to her treatment skills and staying on top of current research.  Her current topics of study include pelvic floor issues in high level female athletes, visceral mobilization, and craniofacial work.

Maddie the therapy dog

While still rooting for her favorite Volunteers, Lisa thoroughly enjoys living in East Cobb with her amazingly supportive husband and 3 teenage children.  Lisa and her husband enjoy the many basketball and football games, ballet recitals, choir concerts, and musical theater performances that life currently has to offer.   Lisa enjoys spending time with her family, being active in her church, hiking in Georgia’s gorgeous mountains, studying Pilates, and has been a flutist for more than 3 decades.  One of the highlights of the year has been training Maddie the therapy dog, who is known to make a guest appearance at the clinic from time to time upon patient request.  Maddie turned 1 in April and while her official therapy dog training was on hold due to the pandemic, she resumes her program soon.  She is perfectly suited for bringing comfort and smiles to patients.  Follow us on Instagram to see what Maddie is up to.
