Dr. Lisa Shaw

Kari Hammond, PT, DPT

Doctor of Physical Therapy

Dr. Kari Hammond graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and in 2009 with a doctorate of Physical Therapy, both from the University of Florida. She completed a sports residency in 2010 at the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute at UF, then moved to Atlanta to work in the Sports Medicine department at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. At CHOA, she worked with young athletes across a wide range of sports and started the Running Medicine Program for youth cross country and track athletes.

Kari became a Board-Certified Sports Specialist through the APTA in 2012. She is trained in dry needling through Myopain Seminars and has recently become a certified Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist through Core Exercise Solutions. She enjoys treating patients and athletes with a variety of orthopedic issues and is passionate about helping runners and athletes of all ages and abilities stay strong, healthy, and active for life.

Kari grew up a dancer (hip hop, jazz, and contemporary) but decided to become a runner in high school and has been an endurance athlete ever since. Since college, she has competed in triathlons, trail races, and half marathons. Fortunately, she has managed to avoid any major injuries in her lifetime, but has worked through many of her own overuse injuries and biomechanical dysfunctions. She is extremely passionate about educating people on how to keep their bodies healthy and has become an advocate for the prevention of orthopedic injuries.

Since moving to Atlanta, she has also discovered a love for rock climbing (indoor) because it is a full-body workout that requires strength, body awareness, and endurance, and forces her to push herself out of her comfort zone. She loves participating in sports that she can do for many more years to come!

Kari and her husband, Jimmy, have the best of both worlds— a son and a daughter! As a family, they love spending time together outside, going on hikes, bike rides, and all kinds of adventures, big and small.
